I’m an incredibly awkward person. I always say the wrong things at the wrong times, I can’t eat or drink anything without spilling or dropping half of it on me or the table, and I trip way too often. Even if you’re slightly more composed than I am, we’ve all had that awkward moment when…
…you try to yank your covers up but end up smacking your hand against the wall.
…you’re watching a movie or a TV show with a sex scene in it and your parents or roommate choose that exact moment to walk into the room.
…you tell your roommate that you’re going to bed, so she goes to study in your common room so that she doesn’t disturb you, but when she comes back three hours later, you’re watching TV because you need to find out what happens next…and so you essentially kicked her out of her own room for no reason.
…you accidentally trip while on the treadmill and both you and your phone goes crashing to the ground…during peak hours.
…you spend hours reading 30 pages of a chapter and taking the best notes of your life for class in lieu of doing other things, but when you get to class the professor tells you that you can skip those 30 pages and the important part is the second half of the chapter.
…you put a pair of contacts in and everything’s blurry…and it takes you 5 minutes of taking them out and putting them back in again to realize that you left your contacts in from the night before so now you’re wearing two pairs.
…the 4 year old child you’re giving swim lessons to grabs you by the boobie, you grimace, and his parents notice.
…a squirrel mistakes your leg for a tree (it’s dark out–the sun hasn’t risen yet) while you’re running and he casually hops on and makes you scream like you’ve never screamed before, and then you trip on a tree root and fall to the ground.
Note: all of these things are things that have happened to me within the last month. (The squirrel thing happened on Monday. I’ve given every squirrel the evil eye since.) I got the inspiration for this post during a night when I was having a harder time falling asleep than I normally do, attempted to pull my covers up, and ended up smacking my hand against the wall.
Please make me feel better about my poor little awkward self and share an awkward moment you’ve had recently.
